A group of locals held onto a tree all day to survive floods in central India's Madhya Pradesh on Sunday August 8.

Video of Sironj, in Vidisha district, show the entire village submerged in rising waters, filmed from the roof of a building.

During the incident a pair of men clung on to a 16-feet-tall (4.8m) tree for 24 hours to avoid being swept away. Later, rescuers arrived to save them.

Several locals were also stranded overnight, before being rescued by a team associated with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), who came by boat.
