Hundreds were forced to evacuate as the water level of two rivers in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, rose to dangerous levels.

Footage from August 10 shows parts of the city submerged in the rising floodwater.

The Ganges and the Yumauna rivers have both risen around 3 centimetres each due to heavy rainfall.

The Ganga and the Yamuna are flowing above the danger mark and many in the city are spending sleepless nights as they fear a repeat of previous floods of 2013 and 2019. Rivers Ganga and Yamuna began to flow above the danger-mark in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj from Sunday. The situation in much of Prayagraj remains the same with officials fearing that floods may also affect urban areas over the next few days.

The water level of both the rivers was increasing by around 3cm each hour and continuous showers have made things worse for the people. The Yamuna too had risen in the past 24 hours and its water level at 10 pm (Monday) was 85.21m and had risen to 85.68m by Tuesday 6 pm. The entire Gaughat, Baradari of Balaughat, parts of the Kareli area were all submerged in flood water that had entered the ground floor of many houses located on the banks of the Ganga. Boats are being to supply necessary items in these localities

Arrangements have been made in flood-affected areas and water levels are expected to maintain for the next two days.NDRF teams have been deployed to rescue people who are being shifted to safe places and relief camps.
