A brave pet cat protected his owner recently by seeing off a wild bear in a forest eastern Russia.

Footage captured on July 31 shows "Vasya" squaring up to the bear and arching his back as the hefty intruder approaches a fishing camp beside the Angara River near Ust-Ilimsk in the Irkutsk region

"Vasya, calm down, we don't need so much meat!" jokes one of the fishermen as the plucky black feline meets the bear head-on and eyeballs it.

Eventually, with "Vasya" showing no signs of backing down, the bear retreats into the forest.

After the bear leaves the camp, one of the fishermen adds: 'Well done Vasily Vasilyevich! This is it, you are on the front page! The biggest piece of meat is yours!’

The video demonstrates the confrontation between a bear and a cat. The matter did not come to a serious conflict: Vasya sternly arched his back and showed the forest beast who was in charge here. "Vasya, calm down, we don't need so much meat!" - the owners tried to calm down the animal behind the scenes.

At the same time, people reacted calmly enough to the proximity of a wild beast, as if nothing threatened them.

In the end, the bear really retreated, deciding not to mess with the brave cat.
