A large explosion from a shop selling gas canisters destroyed at least two buildings in Lao Cai, Vietnam on Wednesday (August 11).

A video showed the blast and black smoke emanating from the building that had earlier caught fire.

The shop owner reportedly tried to move the gas cylinders from the premises when he noticed the blaze but didn't have time to prevent them from catching fire.

Firefighters arrived quickly and the fire was put out after more than an hour.

The shop and one neighbouring building were completely destroyed.

The owner of the shop escaped with only minor injuries.

According to eyewitnesses, they heard several loud explosions coming from inside a large gas store in the neighborhood. The shop owner tried to get the big gas cylinders out. However, the fire spread very quickly and the gas cylinders continuously exploded, causing the fire to rise very high. The fire quickly engulfed the house. Exploding gas cylinders shook the whole neighborhood. Many people living nearby ran out of their houses to avoid the gas cylinders.
Firefighters quickly arrived to bring the fire under control. However, the exploding gas cylinders completely destroyed the store as well as the neighboring houses. After more than an hour the fire was extinguished. Three houses were destroyed and many more were affected by the explosion. The gas shop owner suffered minor injuries. Fortunately there were no human casualties.
The fire is continuing to be investigated and clarified by the authorities
