In a horrifying incident, a rhino escaped into the residential areas in India's northeastern state of Assam. It escaped into the residential areas adjoining the Kaziranga National Park near Haldhibari village on Thursday (August 13).

Visuals of the incident portray a horrific scene as the rhino rummages through the roads and tries to enter the resident's homes. While it gets out of the river, locals hurl stones at it in the presence of the Assam's forest department personnel and continue to do so as it runs through the paths. Later, footbound and elephant-laden officials open firing at the creature while it rummages behind the bushes and trees.

It took place in broad daylight, leaving the locals stirred with fear and shock. Fearing potential danger from the wild animal, they continuously maintained a safe distance from it. Meanwhile, the officials arrived in no time due to the station's proximity to the national park, which is home to diverse local wildlife of Assam including over 2000 Indian rhinos.
