Exceptionally heavy rains in Kyushu and Chugoku regions caused flooding across Nagasaki, Saga, and Fukuoka prefectures.
Hiroshima was also issued the highest level alert for heavy precipitation.
It is the latest in a series of extreme weather events experienced around the world in recent months, that scientists say have been made more likely by climate change.
