Moment thief wearing ‘joker’ mask tries to break into ATM in southern India
This was the moment a burglar equipped with a joker mask attempted to rob an ATM machine at Kurumpanai in southern India.
Video footage at an Indian Bank branch, from August 12, shows a well-built young man with his face and head covered with a joker mask entering the ATM with an iron rod. He is seen trying to break open the ATM before leaving abruptly.
Karungal inspector D Rhenius Jesupatham said that the thief fled as he saw a few fishermen passing on the road.
The ATM alarm failed to go off and the bank manager came to know of the theft attempt only the next morning. He then lodged a police complaint along with the CCTV footage.
The same man made a second failed attempt to break into another ATM of the same bank at Muttom – about 15km away.
“A separate case has been registered there,” the inspector said.
