Thousands march in Nantes, France against Health Pass and mandatory vaccination

Thousands of people gathered in Nantes, France, on Saturday (14 August) to protest against the government's Covid-19 Health Pass.

The pass is required to enter certain places, like bars, museums and long-distance train journeys. It records whether someone has had a vaccination, a recent negative test result, or has caught the virus so has some natural immunity.

Some of those at the demonstration also opposed mandatory vaccination of healthcare workers -- another government policy.

They marched through the city to the hospital, to pay an homage to health care workers. They also went to a former castle, now tourist attraction, to denounce the use of the Health Pass for tourism. Eventually they left the area, allowing the castle to reopen.

The protesters later dispersed peacefully.
