A city-wide minute's silence has been held to remember five victims of the Plymouth massacre
A city-wide minute's silence has been held to remember five victims of the Plymouth massacre - as the 'house of horrors' where the killing spree began was revealed for the first time.
Large crowds joined dignitaries in observing the moment of reflection at 11am today (Mon) in tribute to those who died at the hands of gunman Jack Davison last Thursday evening.
Since the tragedy, tribute have been flooding in for victims Maxine Davison, 51, Lee Martyn, 43, his daughter Sophie Martyn, three, Kate Shepherd, 66, and Stephen Washington, 59.
And this morning a sombre commemoration was led outside the Guildhall in Plymouth, with local leaders asking people across the country to "stand together" and join the city in its grief.
Speaking ahead of the service, leader of Plymouth City Council Nick Kelly said: "Plymouth, last Thursday our world was rocked when five innocent people tragically lost their lives. The hashtag Plymouthtogether is symbolising that the city will regroup and we will get through this devastating incident.
"Our hearts and minds and souls go out to the families and friends of those who tragically lost their lives last Thursday.
"Today we will have a minute's silence as a city to come together to mark and respect those lives lost. It may take days, weeks or even years, but please know we will do everything we can to support the area and ensure Plymouth once again rises from this devastating and really, really tragic incident."
Speaking earlier, Councillor Terri Beer, the Lord Mayor of Plymouth, asked others from across the UK to share in the minute's silence.
She said: “The outpouring of love and kindness for Keyham has been overwhelming. Across the country, we have seen how everyone is distraught by what has happened.
“To show the families of the victims and the wider community that we all stand with them at this difficult time, I invite everyone in the UK to join us in a minute’s silence.
“We all need to come together and support Keyham to recover from this tragedy. This will be a moment for us to unite, reflect and remember those we have lost.”
Elsewhere in the city, the vigil at North Down Crescent Park in Keyham has continued to grow with flowers, messages and teddy bears continuing to be added to the site.
The police cordon at Biddick Drive - where the killer's shooting spree began when he shot his mother dead - was removed last night (Sun) with the home dubbed the "house of horrors" now visible to the public for the first time since the incident.
Police maintained a guard outside the end terraced home and maintained a strong presence in the area.
Another candlelit vigil is also being held this evening at Jubilee Green in the nearby town of Saltash, Cornwall. It is expected to start at 8.45pm.
