Incredible waterspout tornado forms over homes in Thailand
This is the moment an incredibly long and thin waterspout tornado formed over homes in Thailand.
The weather phenomenon looked like a thin sheet of white cloth flowing from the dark clouds to the sea near the village in Phatthalung province on August 13.
After around 15 minutes, the waterspout gradually disappeared before bringing heavy rains with strong winds in the area.
There was no reported damage due to the incident as the whirlpool stayed on the water and did not move towards land.
Resident Khao Kaew said: ‘It was dark outside so I checked if it was going to rain then I saw the long waterspout. Behind our house was the sea so it must have been sitting in the water.
‘It was very long and appeared to suck up water from the sea. I took some pictures and stayed inside the house before there was rain.’
Waterspouts are intense columns of swirling tornado clouds that form over a body of water. They are most commonly found in subtropical areas and disappear shortly after they come into contact with land.
They are formed when pockets of warm air near the water surface rise suddenly. Cooler air is then sucked into the low-pressure air, which picks up water and rises towards the clouds in a rotating motion.
