Calf rescued after falling into five metre deep well
A hapless calf was rescued after falling into a 16ft-deep well.
The young female cow named Manee was let out in the yard to feed on the grass near a farmer’s home in Tak province, Thailand when the incident happened on August 15.
As the six-month-old animal grazed, it accidentally slipped on the cylinder hole before falling into the bottom of the abandoned pit which was filled with knee-deep water.
The farmer Noon Saetang noticed the calf was missing so he looked for the animal until he found it struggling to move in the narrow well before calling the rescue team for help.
He said: ‘I was shocked to discover my calf in the well. Thankfully my cow was not injured but she looked like she was tired.’
When the volunteers arrived, they set up a pulley system on top of the well with safety ropes attached to nearby trees before one of the rescuers climbed down.
The rescuer then tied a harness around the calf when he was at the bottom before he was pulled out by his colleagues followed by the animal.
After almost half an hour, the calf was freed and pulled up to the ground safely. It was not seriously hurt aside from a few scratches.
The relieved farmer then thanked the team before taking the tired animal home to feed and give fresh water.
