Thai police arrested a Chinese man accused of selling sex toys in Bangkok.

Officers swooped on Lee Mao Shiang, 28, and his local business partner Ekkaluk Shotwhetpatcharakul, 47, after a tip-off that they were hiding smuggled adult toys in Nongkhaem district on August 16.

The duo was allegedly found with 5,000 pieces of illegal items such as fake vaginas, dildos, penis enlargement devices, and other unregistered items such as massage lotions, lubricants, and condoms.

After the operation, the officers seized the items believed to have an estimated worth of three million baht (65,500 GBP) before taking the alleged smugglers to the station.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Trin Onnim said: ‘We requested for a search warrant from the Bang Bon District Court to search a warehouse in Nongkhaem district, Bangkok. Upon arrival, we caught Ekkaluk and Lee red-handed with the illegal items.’

The pair allegedly confessed to being the owner of the illegal items found. They said they imported the products from China to sell through online channels.

The pair was then charged with importing and handling illegal goods, distributing them for trade purposes, and having items without the requisite customs labels. Lee was also charged for not carrying a passport.

Investigations into the incident are still ongoing while the pair would be remanded in custody.

Thai law states that sex toys are illegal in the country. The penalty for anyone caught selling, buying, or possessing sex toys is up to three years in jail or a fine of up to 60,000 baht or both.
