Banana street hawker in India survives shocking collision with passing bus

A shocking accident showed just how dangerous life can be for street hawkers in India.

In the incident in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra, on January 2, a bus owned by Thane Municipal Transport hit a banana seller trying to squeeze his cart past a constant stream of traffic going in the opposite direction on a service road below a flyover.

Despite clipping the edge of an auto-rickshaw (tuk-tuk) once with his cart, the man carries on, perhaps foolishly pushing rather than pulling his large flat cart.

A passing bus soon collides with the cart, smashing it and hurling the man through the air.

He flies through the air and lands on his head on the pavement. Despite this, police said he only sustained minor injuries, though his cart appeared to be destroyed.

Local residents said such accidents were common as many roads in the city were being repaired without proper planning, forcing commuters to take unnecessary risks.
