This is the terrifying moment a waterspout tornado appeared out of nowhere and descended into the sea in the Philippines.

The giant weather phenomenon was spotted extending from the dark storm clouds near a fishing village in Calabanga.

Amazed onlooker Joel Pado Quiozon said: ‘I was with my neighbors when the waterspout started forming. We gathered outside to witness the rare scene. It was the first time we have seen one here. We thought there was a storm and it was scary to watch because it was long and looked strong.'

Waterspouts are intense columns of swirling tornado clouds that form over a body of water. They are most commonly found in subtropical areas and disappear shortly after they come into contact with land.
