Mother abandons infant in hospital ward in northern India

In a heartbreaking incident, a woman left an infant at a district hospital in northern India's Jammu and Kashmir on August 21. The incident took place at Udhampur's district hospital.

Visuals feature a woman in green clothes, wearing a mask as she suspiciously enters the gynecology ward, drops the baby girl, and comes out empty-handed and does a last-minute check before leaving the hospital. On immediate knowledge, the police officials and the hospital administration take charge of caring for the baby and find the woman who did it.

Women police officials took the newborn into their lap to try to calm her while she fidgeted, unaware of the situation. The Chief Medical Officer took swift action, and it was asserted that strict action would be taken against the offender.

On one hand, where the government is promoting the need to save girl child and have been organizing campaigns like 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' (teach a girl child, save a girl child), such activities are being carried out on the other. It has been strictly condemned, and it is hoped that such incidents do not continue to occur in the future.
