A group of local people in south India were confused when a tree began to spray out water from its trunk on August 26.

The people of Velmurugan, in Nagar Madurai district, Tamilnadu were filmed gathering around the leaking tree and collecting water in buckets.

The tree oozed out water for about 45 minutes from its trunk, and local youths drank the water and took selfies with the water tree.

The tree is believed to be a Terminalia, some varieties of which are known to contain water when split open.

Trees like these are found in the forests of South India in Tamil Nadu.
They are called as Terminalia Tomentosa, a tree from wich water is seen oozing out of the trunk after being hacked by an axe. It is also known by the names of Asan, Asna, Saj etc.

The tree is a May flower tree, according to locals.
