Locals celebrate Kandy Esala Perahera with enthusiasm in Sri Lanka

The Esala Perahera is one of the oldest and grandest of all Buddhist festivals in Sri Lanka on August 23. The incident took place in Kandy.

Visuals feature the locals celebrating the festival with extreme joy and enthusiasm in broad daylight on the street while taking out the festive procession on the road. Besides, the people, along with the elephants, adorn themselves in colorful attires and rejoice at the moment while the onlookers witness and behold the majestic spectacle.

Kandy Esala Perahera, also known as The Festival of the Tooth, is celebrated every year in Sri Lanka. This historical procession is held annually to pay homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic of Buddha, which is housed at the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy. Moreover, the procession consists of traditional local dances such as fire dances, etc.
