The pile of waste brought by numerous garbage trucks is piled up, compacted and stored under the open sky in Zrenjanin, Serbia. The amount of garbage arriving at the landfill is increasing. A total of 737,533 tons of various waste (communal, construction and inert) was brought to the landfill.

Fires in city landfills come as a consequence of the evaporation of natural gases caused by the process of decay of biodegradable and classic municipal waste. In such situations, the most important thing is to react quickly. Such fires at the landfill are occasional, and they mostly happen in the summer, when the temperatures are high. The last major one was recorded in 2019.
