Abdulrahman Abdulqadir Fiqi and Sara Hamdi Masoud are representing Qatar at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
Abdulrahman was Qatar's flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the 2012 Paralympic Games in London and became the first athlete representing Qatar to win a medal in any sport at the Paralympic Games when he claimed silver in the F34 shot put at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro
Sara represented Qatar at the 2016 Summer Paralympics held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and she won the silver medal in the women's shot put F33 event. She is the first female Paralympic athlete to win a medal at the Paralympic Games for Qatar.
Due to the pandemic, the Paralympic Games were postponed last year to prevent the spread of the virus among athletes.
Abdulrahman, a former world champion who has already represented Qatar in two Paralympic Games, will compete in the men’s shot put – F34.
Sara, who is also a silver medalist at the Rio Games, will compete in the shot put – F33.
“A lot of time has gone staying indoors, waiting for this pandemic to end. I am aiming to get the gold at the Tokyo Games. I do not know what will happen, but I am confident and hopeful of winning the gold medal,” said Abdulrahman, who won a silver medal in Rio 2016.
