Homeless prevented from collecting water at municipal taps, American basketball player & business man lends a hand after tents confiscated

After having their tents confiscated by municipal police last week, Homeless persons around the sea point area have been braving icy cold weather and continuous harassment from Municipal police. This includes being prevented from collecting drinking water from the taps inside municipal toilets.

Despite being ordered by the Western Cape High Court to return the tents to the affected persons, they have been prevented from re erecting it. The court application will continue on Tuesday 31st August 2021.

Shaun, one of the victims of the confiscation, explains that he and his twin brother who is a Tuberculosis patient were forced onto the streets after the Covid19 lockdown caused them to lose their jobs and place of residence.

Jared Harrington, A professional basket ball player from America saw their story on social media last week and stepped in to assist with basic necessities. Jared is currently in South Africa and visited the site where Shaun and other homeless persons reside in Sea Point.
