Football matches are normally called off when a pitch is waterlogged - except in the Cotswolds. The annual event, which took place today (August 30), sees two teams from Bourton on the Water Rovers FC play a match in the calm waters of the River Windrush. The tradition has taken place for over 100 years in the Gloucestershire village.
The 30-minute game was played between mixed teams of Bourton Rovers 1st XI and 2nd XI. This year’s match ended in a 1-1 draw with a disputed penalty which resulted in a player receiving a red card.
