A remarkable woman from the Indian state of Punjab cares for more than 500 stray dogs at her home.

Pooja funds the project at her house in the town of Ludhiana entirely herself and pays with her own money for the food and medicines her growing pack needs.

She rescued many of the strays after they were hit by cars and required medical treatment.

Local authorities recognise her expertise and call Pooja whenever there's a canine emergency.

Some have taken to calling her "Dog-mother", a nickname she accepts readily, although she also lives with her human son.

Where it is difficult to have at least one or two pets at home, she is caring for more than 500 stray dogs without anyone's help. The most surprising thing is that she is not running any animal hospital, she is giving shelter to them in her own house.

Pooja is a residence of Punjab, and she lives with her son. She is feeding over 500 stray dogs with her own money and keeping them in her own house. She rescues the dogs who get injured in a road accident. Whenever any dog suffers a road accident, instead of calling any animal doctor people prefer to call pooja in an emergency. Pooja gives them proper food and medical treatment on time. She baths them and cares for them like a mother, that is the reason people call her Dog-Mother. She is doing it all with her own money. Pooja did not get any type of help from the government or NGO.
