Local authorities rescued an abandoned baby elephant in southwestern China.

The heroic video, filmed in Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province on August 29, shows rescuers, police officers, and volunteers treating and feeding the 6-day-old calf named Wen Wen.

Wen Wen was abandoned when it was only six days old and its umbilical cord had severe suppurative inflammation as well as diarrhoea, fever, racing heart and swelling in the legs and face.

After treating Wen Wen on site, it was transported to Yunnan Asian Elephant Population Breeding and Rescue Center for further diagnosis and treatment.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
