This is the moment older students at a Danish school give nervous new starters a raucous ‘Rockstars welcome’ on their first day.

Students and staff flanked either side of the school entrance to cheer and welcome the new kids to help dispel any of their first day jitters.

Keri Bloomfield filmed her daughter Eva, five, walking in hand in hand with her Dad.

New Zealander Keri, who has been living with her partner in Copenhagen for five years, said: “It’s common in Denmark for the new students to be welcomed with flags and singing, but this really was a next level welcome for my daughter’s first day of school.

"When we arrived in the morning, older students and teachers formed a circle around us to welcome us. After a few speeches the new students were called into their new classrooms which is when things really took a step up.

"My daughter is in Grade 0. It's her first year in primary school and this memory will stay with her for a long time. It was a great start for her.

"We were expecting something when we arrived, the Danes always do a great job of celebrating special occasions, but this one took us by surprise. It really was something special that had us all caught up in the emotion.

"I was expecting something but not that big. To begin with I think Eva was a little bit overwhelmed, she definitely had a firm grip on her Dad’s hand. But overall, she loved it and is unlikely to forget her first day in a hurry."
