Newly emerged monarch butterfly 'takes rest' on filmer's face in Montreal, Canada

A newly emerged monarch butterfly greeted this filmer by taking a rest on her face.

The Montreal resident filmed as the young butterfly crawled across her face and began resting on her head.

She told Newsflare: "Every year I rescue eggs of monarch butterflies that deposit them on evasive Himalayan balsam plants rather than native milkweed in my garden.

"If I do not collect the eggs they will surely die as milkweed is the only source of food for a growing monarch caterpillar. We released this butterfly who was not fully dried out after emerging from its chrysalis.

"It found its way onto my face then rested on top of my head and stayed there for over 30 minutes before flying off.

"Monarch butterflies cannot fly until their wings are fully dry and rigid but what I didn't realise was that they literally drip with a salty-tasting liquid. Yes, I tasted it..."

This footage was filmed on August 27.
