Shocking video shows a flooded New York Street as deadly storm Ida descended on the city.

The storm that dumped a months worth of rain over the course of a few hours left the street in Bushwick, Brooklyn looking like a scene from "The Day After Tomorrow."

Filmed by twitter user @thisbushwicklife, the footage shows cars submerged outside their apartment on Knickerbocker Avenue between Hart street and Dekalb Avenue.

The user posted on their Twitter urging followers to "stay safe".

A state of emergency has been declared in New York and New Jersey amid catastrophic flooding that has killed at least eight people, including a two-year-old boy.

Record rainfall has also been recorded in Central Park and downpours are expected to continue for several hours.
