Hurricane Ida brings major flooding to Philadelphia area forcing boat rescues

The remnants of Hurricane Ida dumped 6”-8” of rain on Philadelphia on Wednesday, September 1. The city awoke to major flooding Thursday morning. The Schuylkill River, projected to crest at 9am, reached Major Flood Stage sending vast amounts of water into the city’s business district. Major highways such as I-676 and I-76 were shut down due to flooding and the Philadelphia Fire Department had to rescue some residents by boat.
