Severe flooding in India's Assam state has hit over 1,230 villages and drowned at least 13 animals in Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, the state government said.

Nine Hog Deers, two Swamp Deer, one Python and one Cap Langure lost their lives.

Humans have also drowned in the floods in recent weeks and thousands of people have been forced from their homes.

Scientists say such extreme weather events have been made more likely by climate change.
