Since the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan, male and female students at this university in Kabul are separated by a curtain during class.

Female students at Ibn-e-Sina University are also now required to wear a hijab.

Fatima Bahr, 25, is a journalism student who says she is struggling to come to terms with the new rules.

"Today (September 6) our college opened and we came wearing hijab to our classes as these are now mandatory after the Taliban takeover," she says in Dari.

"Our classes have curtains to separate girls from boys," she adds, surrounded by the empty seats of students who have chosen not to attend class.

Despite the difficulties she and many thousands like her are facing, Bahr says she is determined to continue getting an education and is calling on the new government to support the rights of women.

"I call on the government of the Islamic Emirate to pay attention to women's rights and to allow us to work and study freely as women," she says.

"We will continue to study and work in any situation," she adds defiantly.

The current situation we have just encountered is not sustainable, And we also want to address the situation of women studying and working freely and we will continue to study and work in any situation."
