Several feared drowned as two boats with 100 passengers collide on river in India, 50 missing
Several people are feared dead in India after a ferry boat carrying around 100 passengers capsized after colliding with another boat.
The incident occurred in the Brahmaputra river in Assam state, northeast India on Wednesday afternoon (September 8).
Eyewitness footage shared with permission from the filmer shows panic at the scene. Some passengers managed to swim to safety while 50 are reportedly feared missing.
The Times of India reported that the “drowned” boat was travelling from Jorhat’s Neematighat to Majuli river island when it collided with another vessel headed in the opposite direction.
The National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force are reportedly carrying out rescue operations.
