A rescue mission is underway to save a herd of randy goats which regularly take over a town after they got stuck on a rocky outcrop perilously close to the sea.

The animals have roamed free in the area for years but lockdown saw a boom in numbers after the herd missed out on their annual contraceptive treatment.

But a group of the silly billies made a perilous journey down to a rocky outcrop surrounded by waves last week and got stuck, in Llandudno, Wales.

Tourists were warned to stop risking their lives to get selfies with the family.

The RSPCA and Conwy County Council mounted a rescue mission, depositing 50 bales of hay on and around Austin's Rock, where the goats were stuck without food and water.

It is hoped the hay will create a safe passage for the goats up the mountain - and entice them to be brave enough to face the climb.

So far around ten have made it to safety and five remain.

Animal lover Neil Jones, 55, a health and safety advisor from Llandudno, Conwy. the town has been keeping a close eye.

He said: "It’s been a bit stressful watching the goats go so many days without access to food or water.

"I've only been concerned for their welfare."

The goats, gifted to the area by Queen Victoria, are wild animals but normally get contraceptive injections to manage their numbers.

But due to the pandemic, this didn't not happen for a year, and the empty streets during lockdown enticed the goats further and further into urban areas.

Numbers grew so much some were moved to Bristol.

They got trapped six days ago (10), and hay bales were laid down on Tuesday.

The coastguard has urged people not to attempt to reach or take pictures of the animals in their plight, for fear of injury to the public or the goats.
