Some asylum seekers who arrive in the UK via the Channel will be flown to Rwanda under new government plans announced on April 14.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson spoke on April 14 from Lydd, Kent, about the new government plans.

Home Secretary Priti Patel visited Rwanda to discuss a £120m deal to trial mostly single men to be sent to the African country.

Footage from September 2021 shows a lifeboat bringing migrants to Dungeness, Kent, after being picked up from dinghys in the Channel.

Dungeness, Kent, September 18th 2021. A lifeboat was dispatched from the lifeboat station at Dungeness in Kent after a dinghy carrying migrants was spotted in the English Channel where a stiff breeze was making seas moderately rough. More than a dozen refugees were picked up and brought ashore by the volunteer lifeboat crew. Among them were children and two men with injuries, one of whom had to be stretchered across the beach to the lifeboat station.
