STORYLINE:
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Works in Gaza, Naji Sarhan, said that “1,500 housing units were completely destroyed, and 880 other units were partially destroyed with severe damage, in addition to 56 thousand housing units with moderate and slight damage.”
Qatar has entered the line of reconstruction and wants to start, and Egypt also, knowing that each of them pledged $500 million, with a total of $1 billion, he added.
Sarhan stated that, “It was agreed with Qatar, during the recent visit of Ambassador Muhammad Al-Emadi (chairman of the Qatari Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza) to the Strip, to start reconstruction in October 2021, which includes scattered housing units completely destroyed, and the other severely damaged uninhabitable, and these priority for us in the reconstruction process.”
Based on this agreement, “communication was made with the owners of those housing units, to prepare the special plans necessary for the reconstruction of their destroyed homes,” according to the undersecretary, who indicated that “an agreement was also made with Egypt on the grant, and we are waiting for them, and we expect that there will be a meeting soon with them.” “
According to private sources within the ministry, the ministry's estimates of the reconstruction process are; $200 million to rebuild what was destroyed during the last conflict in 2021, in addition to $150 million for previous wars, with a total of $350 million.
