A brave passerby rescued a stray dog stranded in a canal.

Thanongsak Pohtong, 23 was checking the fire pump at work when he spotted a brown pooch stuck in a canal in Trang province, Thailand on September 12.

To help the animal, he slowly climbed down the slope while his friend held onto him for support and reached over to the wet dog.

Upon seeing the duo, the hapless stray pooch swam towards the man hoping to be rescued before it was pulled to safety.

Thanongsak said: ‘When it saw us, the smart dog started swimming towards us. I don’t know how long this dog had been trapped in the canal but it looked tired.’

After being rescued, the pooch was fed and given water. It also did not have an injury and was generally healthy so it was taken to a nearby village where residents took care of it.
