Footage shows residents buying cakes to mark the annual Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival in the Chinatown area of Bangkok, Thailand, on September 21.

The event, also known as the Moon Festival, Lantern Festival or Mooncake Festival, takes place every year on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese calendar.

Families in China, and those around the world who originate from China, often gather to eat mooncakes, play with lanterns and gaze at the moon from the best viewpoints in their area.

The festival dates back more than 3,000 years when the Emperor of China would worship the moon for bountiful harvests.
