A magnitude 6.0 earthquake left cracks in a garage after it struck southern Australia on Wednesday morning.

Footage shows a long crack running through a garage in Pakenham, Melbourne City on September 22.

The earthquake struck near Mansfield town near Melbourne, Victoria at a depth of 10 kilometres shortly before 9:15 a.m. local time, Geoscience Australia said.

The agency also recorded a magnitude 4.0 aftershock. Tremors from the strong quake were felt up to 800 kilometres away in Adelaide, South Australia.

No casualties or serious injuries have been recorded so far, but some properties were reported damaged, including a burger restaurant that collapsed in Melbourne's South Yarra suburbs.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said: "We have had no reports of serious injuries, or worse, and that is very good news and we hope that good news will continue."

The quake is the strongest to rock Australia since the magnitude 6.6 tremor that hit near the resort town of Broome in the Kimberley region last 2019.
