A customer of Avro Energy was concerned to discover this morning (September 23) that he could no longer access his statement or balance on the company website after the UK energy firm collapsed under soaring gas prices.

"I tried to log into my account this morning and although I could log in, none of my statements were viewable," said the Hertfordshire-based filmer, who preferred not to give his name.

"It’s deeply concerning for customers who fear they may may be switched over to another, more expensive provider," he added.

Nearly 1.5 million customers have been affected by energy firms collapsing.

Avro Energy and Green ceased trading on Wednesday and their 830,000 customers face being switched to a new provider which could be more expensive,

All affected customers will still receive energy while a new supplier is appointed by watchdog Ofgem.
