Mural of Archbishop Desmond Tutu in Cape Town defaced with racist word
A mural of Archbishop Desmond Tutu in the Cape Town CBD has been defaced with a racist word. Tutu, as an Anglican cleric was one of the most vehement opponents of the racist apartheid regime. In the 1980s he was also awarded the Nobel peace prize. The words “Ek is ’n kaffer” has been written on the face of the mural. The words translated into English means “I’m a kaffir”. The word kaffir is an offensive and derogatory word for black South Africans.
