Tunisians protest against President Kais Saied's decisions to strengthen presidential powers in Tunis, Tunisia
This footage was filmed and produced 26 September 2021.
Hundreds of protesters have rallied in Tunisia’s capital to protest against President Kais Saied’s move to seize governing powers.
Demonstrators gathered on Sunday in the center of Tunis along Habib Bourguiba Avenue under a heavy police presence to demand his resignation, chanting, “The people want the fall of the coup.”
Translation of the interview with one of the protesters:
[1:20-1:55]
– I am a Tunisian citizen. I came out today to demonstrate in order to defend the Tunisian constitution, which is the choice of the whole people, after a popular revolution. We want legitimacy and the constitution is the recognized legitimate voice of the people. This constitution obligates me and the youth. I lived through the period of dictatorship and I know what awaits us if this coup against the constitution project will pass.
