Hungry bears devour leftover giant vegetables from Alaska's state fair
These bears got to gobble down an extra big lunch - entries to the state fair giant vegetable competition.
The prize-winning cabbages, courgettes and pumpkins from this year's Alaska State Fair were taken out to a field and bear habitat in Portage, Alaska, USA on a tractor.
The hungry bears then bounded over to begin their feast, and can be seen pawing through the greens, some of which weighed over 35kg.
The Alaska State Fair spans over a fortnight in late August and early September, involving numerous vegetable competitions like a Pumpkin Weigh-Off and Potato Parade.
Every year, organisers generously offer up to 450kg of the remaining vegetables to Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center to feed to their six bears.
They each eat an average of 14kg of produce per day.
This year, the first place pumpkin weighed 727.3kg (1603.5lbs), and the winning cabbage weighed 39.08kg (86.15lbs).
Sarah Howard, the Curator from Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, said: “The bears know when it’s chow time.
"They were very hungry bears for produce this year."
The videos were taken on September 10 2021.
