A 'new' 2000 year old Roman Temple located just off the busy A2 Watling Street - which is thought to be a Roman road - has been preserved in the village of Newington near Sittingbourne in Kent.

Newington History Group have reconstructed the foundations they found during a dig on a new Persimmon homes housing estate.

Persimmon kindly gave the group land to reconstruct the foundations 70m from their original location, and with the help of SWAT Archaeology they have succeeded in painstakingly rebuilding the foundations over the last two years, to the same size and using the original flints, and positioned at the same orientation as originally found during groundworks for the new housing estate.

The new temple has been named 'Watling Place Temple' and is one of the most significant Roman finds in England in recent times.

Footage taken (October 1) shows the village of Newington with oast houses, the busy A2 road and various views of the Roman Temple foundations.
