An old Roman temple was found during excavations on a new house estate in Newington, Kent just off the A2 Watling Street road.

The foundations have now been preserved thanks to Newington History Group who persuaded the real estate group Persimmon homes to put them on display.

Persimmon kindly gave the land to reconstruct the foundations 70 meters from their original location. With the help of SWAT Archaeology, they have succeeded in rebuilding the temple within two years.

The foundations have been replicated to the same size and orientation using the original flints found during groundworks for the new housing estate.

The new temple has been named 'Watling Place Temple' and is one of the most significant Roman finds in England in recent times.
