Roads in Oman’s capital were submerged after Tropical Storm Shaheen made landfall on Sunday October 3.

Motorists had to wait for the water to recede as gushing currents rendered a road impassable in Muscat province on October 3.

At least three people have been killed in Oman as Shaheen battered the country. Two Asian workers were crushed by a landslide that hit their residences in the Rusayl industrial area of Muscat province.

A child swept away by a storm surge was found dead in the same province, while another person was reported missing due to flash floods, officials said.

Shaheen slammed into the Oman-Iran region as a tropical cyclone last Sunday, with winds of up to 150 kilometres per hour. Flights were grounded and thousands of residents have been evacuated from coastal areas due to intense rains and storm surges.

It has since been downgraded to a tropical storm after hitting land, Oman’s national emergency committee said.
