This is the heroic moment brave locals rescued a tourist stranded in raging floodwaters after heavy rain from tropical storm Dianmu in Thailand.

Residents heard people shouting from the stream and discovered a group of tourists trapped in the gushing water in Nakhon Nayok province on October 3.

They then rushed to help the group who immediately formed a chain to prioritise taking a toddler across the overflowing water.

Footage shows one of the men carrying a boy wearing a lifevest before crossing the chest-deep deluge and being pulled to safety by neighbours.

A local rescue team later arrived at the scene and guided the rest of the group to a safer spot. They had the tourists tie their bodies with a rope and helped them cross to the other side.

Onlooker Chadaporn Chaichana said: ‘I remember seeing the colour of the water changing from clear to muddy brown and the other tourists were suddenly crying for help on the other side.’

‘Fortunately, there were people around and helped them right away before the rescue team arrived to save everybody.’

At least seven people have died and tens of thousands more are still stranded receiving aid from rescue groups due to the floods caused by Dianmu.

Ten provinces in Thailand, including Chaiyaphum, have been inundated by Dianmu, according to the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department of Thailand.

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods which cause rivers to flow faster and become dangerous.
