US woman gives cat who lost all use of her back legs a new lease on life
A kind-hearted woman gives a disabled cat a new lease of life and films her playing, cuddling and even climbing.
Sarah Kelly, 31, took in Calico medium hair Helen after a friend found her on the side of the road.
Broken hearted that the kitten who had lost all use of her back legs was due to be euthanised Sarah stepped up and adopted Helen.
4 years later and Helen has not let her disabilities hold her back in life even for a second and is seen independently moving around the house even going as far as to ‘bring’ her owners headphones over and can be seen scaling a spare mattress in a defiant display of independence
Sarah, who lives with Helen in Altoona, PA, said: “A friend who owns a farm found her already like that on the side of the road as a kitten.
"She told me she wouldn't be able to care for her so if she couldn't find a home for her she would have to have her euthanised.
“That broke my heart so we decided to take her in even though we had no knowledge of caring for a disabled cat.
“Through trial and error we learned and now she is a happy four-year-old cat. I’m honestly glad we gave her a chance at life.
"She is very much the alpha of our cat pack. Even goes as far to break up minor fights between our other cats.
“Helen is extremely lovable but sassy. Despite her disability, she is extremely independent. She is able to climb up and down our stair on her own, climb up on to chairs and sofas by herself.”
“She unfortunately especially like to climb our spare mattress, so we had to put that in storage for fear of her hurting herself.”
