Elegant Dusky Moorhens feeding their bald, begging chicks on waterweeds.
Elegant Dusky Moorhens (Gallinula tenebrosa) are commonly seen on wetlands in Australia. Dusky Moorhens sometimes breed in groups, and after hatching their nearly bald chicks are brooded and fed for about four weeks. Adult Moorhens pull up waterweeds and collect floating plants such as Duckweed to feed their young. This video shows two pairs of Dusky Moorhens feeding six young as they beg for food at Herdsman Lake, west of Perth city in Western Australia.
