Magpie flyby: Aussie cyclist records as relentless bird attacks his head

A cyclist riding through Port Kembla, New South Wales, recorded as a relentless magpie repeatedly attacked his head.

The biker has the camera facing his head and catches the bird swooping in and striking his helmet.

He told Newsflare: "Early morning bike ride in Port Kembla, I got swooped multiple times by a rather cross magpie, you can hear multiple strikes to the helmet.

"Luckily it didn't get my ears or back of the head. Swooping is a magpie's protective behaviour at breeding time, warding off intruders or potential threats from their nest, which could house eggs or young."

This footage was filmed on September 16.
