Families and residents went on a rampage to attack a young man suspected of molesting minors in Indonesia.

Footage filmed in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra province on October 8, shows a police officer trying to protect the suspect from being punched and kicked by several men.

The perpetrator with the initials F (22) crouched behind the police while holding his brother's leg to protect him from the attack.

Member of the Bukittinggi police department, Adjunct second inspector Roni Eka Putra, said the suspect, a man who works as an employee of a fried rice trader, was suspected of kidnaping and molesting a girl under the age of 15.

"The perpetrator's modus operandi was to take the victim to school, but he brought her to the hotel. The perpetrator bought the victim avocado juice then mixed it with anesthetic. The victim confessed to her parents that she was raped at the hotel several times a day," Aipda Roni said.

The victim's family who lost her child reported to the police until they found the victim the next day under stress at the perpetrator friend's home.

From the victim's confession, the family and the police found the perpetrator and brought him to be confirmed.

The perpetrator has been taken to the police station. He faces up to 15 years in prison.
