Locals helped move a jeepney trapped in flood as Tropical Storm Kompasu battered the Philippines on Monday killing at least nine people.

Footage shows the young men trying to dislodge a piece of wood that prevented the vehicle from moving in the shin-deep flood in Paranaque City on October 11.

Resident Roseanne Porcalla said: ‘I was shocked and I didn’t expect the water to rise like that. Many jeeps were also damaged while passing through our area.’

Kompasu – locally named typhoon Maring – has intensified into a severe tropical storm on Monday morning, state weather agency Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said.

Storm Signal No. 2 has been raised in nine areas in the archipelago’s northern island, Luzon.
