Heavy rains and strong winds were felt in a village as severe tropical storm Kompasu battered the Cagayan province, the Philippines, on October 11, leaving at least nine people dead.

Resident Diana Laurente Amaqui said: ‘Other towns have been submerged in floods already so we have prepared for a possible evacuation. Hopefully everyone was safe.’

Kompasu, locally known as Maring, is expected to exit the Philippines on Tuesday (October 13) morning and will head to China’s Hainan province where it will make a landfall.

It is the second cyclone to hit the country this October leaving at least nine dead and 11 others missing due to flash floods while forcing the evacuations of thousands in the Luzon island.
